6 simple tips to make more time for yourself

Find more time for yourself. Even when life is busy

In a world that never slows down, sometimes the most powerful thing you can do… is pause.

Making time for yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. To feel clear, strong, and grounded. These six tips will help you create more space in your day (and your mind), even when life is busy.

1. Follow your dreams

What would you spend your time on if you only had two years left? Let that question guide your true priorities. When you stop doing things out of habit or obligation and start choosing based on what really matters, you’ll find energy flows more easily—and time stretches further than you thought.

2. Schedule downtime

Laziness? Not quite. Your nervous system needs breaks to reset and regulate. Try blocking off just 10% of your day for “lummeltijd”—slow time. Sit and sip tea. Watch your kid play. Wander through a park. Do it slowly, without multitasking. Your brain (and body) will thank you.

3. Listen to your gut and act on it

If something already makes your shoulders tense just thinking about it, it’s probably a no. Not everything deserves your energy. If it’s something unavoidable (like doing your taxes), wait until you feel ready—or delegate it to someone who doesn’t dread it. There’s power in knowing what drains you and setting boundaries.

4. Learn to say “so what?”

Yes, the renovation is chaotic. Yes, your kid’s room looks like a tornado hit. And yes, that meeting could’ve been an email. But… so what? You decide what’s worth your emotional energy. Shrug, smile, move on. Sometimes, that’s the most powerful response you can give.

5. Ditch "Yes, but.."

Notice those internal objections? “Yes, but I can’t work less.” “Yes, but what will people think?” Instead of brushing them off, ask yourself: what’s really underneath that? Fear? Doubt? Pressure to keep up?

Try softening the way you speak to yourself. Replace rigid thoughts like “I have to” or “I should” with “I choose to” or “I can.” It’s a small shift, but it creates space—and gives you back your sense of control.

6. Zoom out

Before you say yes to the next task or obligation, ask yourself: Does this align with who I want to be? Does it support my health, happiness, or growth? If not… maybe it’s time to say no, or not now. Every “no” creates space for a more meaningful “yes.”

Taking care of yourself doesn’t require a big life overhaul—just a few conscious choices each day.
